Let’s engage in a quick virtual clap for our front-line works.
A profession in the medical field often came along with a stigma: affluent, educated, top of the social ladder. What everyone’s Mum wanted for their children. But rarely was such a profession advertised openly amongst users in online dating. These professions were kept secret. Perhaps because they signified to fellow online daters that they are prone to demanding work schedules, not leaving enough time for a personal life. Perhaps it was also a ploy to keep money-looting relationship seekers away - “why yes, my partner is a neuro-surgeon and we couldn’t be happier because we are loaded.”
We have now seen a shift in this stigma take place. Doctors, nurses, essential workers have come out of hiding and proudly wear their NHS uniforms. And they show it on their dating profiles. Here they are. No longer in the shadows.
